Places To Visit

Here are some suggestions of places to visit in the Vadstena area whilst you are here:

Sancta Birgitta Convent Museum, Vadstena

One of Sweden's most remarkable buildings: the royal palaces, convents, prison and sensory hospital. It tells the story of St. Birgitta, Sweden's only saint who is approved by the Vatican and one of Europe's patron saints since 1999 and about monastic life in Sweden during the Middle Ages.

Bobbin Lace

Vadstena has a long history of bobbin lace making. Why not visit the shop 'Elsa Petersons Spetsaffär', Storgatan 33.

Omberg Ecopark

Located 20 mins drive south of Vadstena on the shores of lake Vättern, you find mythical Omberg with lovely walks and stunning views.

Nature Reserve Tåkern

The shallow lake Tåkern is one of Europe's most important nesting areas for many bird species. Here is a Visitor Centre and Northern Europe's largest reed bed, the size of approx. 2.400 football fields!

Ombergs Golf

1/2 hr by car. One of the country's best golf courses with magnificent views over the lake. An exciting and incredibly beautiful course (according to Lina's parents).

Gamla Linköping - Old Linköping

Numerous old buildings were saved and moved from Linköping downtown during the 50s and the 60s to make this picturesque open air museum with cobbled streets and various craft shops, old fashioned general store, silversmith, Cloetta chocolate factory sales.

45 mins drive from Vadstena

Swedish Air Force Museum

Located at Malmen Airbase in Malmslätt, just outside Linköping.

20 mins north of Vadstena lies a very special town called Motala. Lina's father grew up here and Lina spent many happy summers at her grandparent's summer paradise. Stroll along Göta Canal where it greets the lake, watch life in the busy harbour. Several eating places and cafés.
